Tastevinage de Printemps:

a marriage of cheese and wine made in… Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Overseen and organized by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, the 97th session was held last Friday at the Château du Clos de Vougeot.

This spring Tastevinage was chaired by Jean-Charles Arnaud, affineur of Comté cheese in the Jura and president of the INAO, the organization in charge of regulating the origin and quality of French agricultural products. The chairman and CEO of Juraflore, the famous Comté producer, assumed his winetasting duties with evident pleasure, along with the other 215 judges gathered in the Château’s great cellar. The Tastevinage wine-tasters are all authentic professionals from the world of wine – a mixture of producers, presidents of winegrowers’ associations, sommeliers, wine-brokers, restaurant owners, with one or two enthusiastic and knowledgeable amateurs thrown in for good measure. The high caliber of the jury’s expertise guarantees that the consumer will not be making a mistake in choosing a Tasteviné wine.

Of the 565 wines presented only 188, or 33.27%, will be entitled to display the arms of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. As Jean-Charles Arnaud stressed in his speech, “Whatever the status of the Appellation, from Chablis to the Beaujolais Crus, Tasteviné wines are always a sign of the pursuit of excellence”.
